AI-built website: what to check before publishing?

You have built an initial website with AI. Assess it through a real customer journey: someone discovers your business, checks whether it meets their needs and tries to contact you.

Make your service understandable

Ask someone unfamiliar with your business to read a page. Can they explain what you offer, who it is for, where you work and how to start? Try this on a phone, with a service page as well as the homepage.

Replace general claims with information customers already ask for: what a job includes, conditions, timelines to confirm and details needed for a quote. Verify every AI-generated fact, especially figures, qualifications and service areas.

Give verifiable reasons to choose you

Introduce the person or business doing the work. Add projects you can publish, your exact role, authorized photos and qualifications you actually hold. An explained example helps visitors judge your experience.

For an article, identify the author or reviewer and sources when the facts require them. A credible layout cannot replace fact-checking. Never add invented testimonials, customers or results.

Test contact through to receipt

Test phone, email and booking links. For a form, send a test message and confirm delivery to the expected inbox. Also try a missing field and an oversized file if attachments are allowed.

Customers should understand whether their request was received and what happens next. Check that hours, phone numbers and addresses match across your pages and business listing.

Check what search engines can access

For public pages, check access, internal links, titles and the presence of essential text. Review indexing settings after launch, then use Search Console URL inspection to understand what Google could access.

Structured data must match visible information. Google says its AI features require no special markup and that SEO fundamentals still apply. Meeting these criteria guarantees neither indexing nor ranking.

Distinguish visits from inquiries

Choose what to observe: pages visited from Google, inquiries received, appointments booked or qualified quote requests. A phone link click indicates intent; it proves neither a completed call nor a sale.

Start by tracking inquiries and their sources simply. If you add analytics, define useful events and collection rules first. A tool installed without a clear question mostly produces hard-to-interpret numbers.

Decide what needs fixing

Group your findings: barriers to understanding, barriers to contact, and publishing or maintenance issues. Fix the essential journey first. A complete redesign is not always needed.
